What's in your elk pack part 1 - Kill Kit.
« on: April 16, 2018, 08:05:37 PM »
What do you cats have in your elk pack for a kill kit? I probably carry too much (overkill in a way..... ha, ha...get it ;)...). At any rate, curious to hear what you folks have stowed away in your elk pack for that joyous moment you need to pull it out and get busy on that downed wapiti!

I carry the following stuffed into a large VIAM Outdoors G3 bag:

4 - 20' lengths of 650 paracord
1 - Chili powder
1 - Fixed blade knife (Elk Track); 1 - Two sides diamond sharpener; 1 - Replaceable blade knive (Outdoor Edge) w/3 blades
2 - Surgical gloves
2 - Large black plastic sacks (nice to lay meat on during processing, and, to line pack with)
1 - VIAM Outdoors game bags (Hunter pack)
1 - SOG folding saw

I didn't include flagging ribbon and small bottle of spray peroxide in my kill kit list as they ride in top of my pack for quick access.

Well, what's in your wallet, errr, Kill Kit?

It’s arguably the best thing to keep flies and other annoying insects off bloody meat.

This is very close to my list! I hunt mostly with a packboard with black Ovis bags and a contractor bag shoved in by the frame.  I don't carry a saw though.

Knife, diamond sharpener, small saw, cord/rope, meat sacks...enough meat sacks. I learned to make sure I have enough meat sacks after I once had to use clothing items to wrap meat in. Rode out to get the trailer in my skivvies.

That’s awesome! I can envision boned out meat tied off in your hunting pants hanging from a branch  ;).  Yep, bring enough bags for sure.

Havalon with 3 extra blades
Razor Pro with 3 extra blades
Flip & Zip Saw for sternum & pelvis
Kevlar glove
Shoulder gloves & 3 pair nitrile
2 large quarter and 2 smaller quarter bags with another smaller bag for heart/liver
Flagging tape
550 cord
Food bar

The above is for elk, if I'm hunting extra close to the road or for deer or antelope I'll usually bring much less.  I have the above vacuum packed and strapped between my Exo frame and 2000 bag.

Sheeds, Pepshi, McDonalds. :chuckle:

I found out last fall that I need someone with water rescue equipment. :chuckle:

Knives with a few extra blades, many game bags, rope, snacks, drinks.
