I figured everyone got the survey. They want to know if and how we want to change the points system in the state. At least that's what I got from it....

Never recieved anything??  But since I drew this year, I think they should do away with points!!     :chuckle:       But seriously, that’s what I think.

:yeah:
I’m not a fan of points systems but Wyoming’s seems to work fairly well in my experience

Weird, I never got the survey either.   :dunno:  I like the way their point structure is currently.  I think they are nervous because of their price increase this year on tags and everyone cashed in on points, they feel like people will get out of the game a bit.

I didn't get a survey but there is one change that would benefit NR hunters, WGFD and not affect residents noticeably.  Currently full price nonresident elk licenses are capped at 7,250 by statute.  Once NR limited quota licenses are drawn, that total is subtracted from 7,250 and the remainder then allocated to NR general licenses, usually around 5000 give or take 1000.  WGFD should ideally be able to set the number of NR general elk licenses based on herd counts and management objectives, as is done with all other big game species.  Failing that, separating the issuance of limited quota elk licenses from the 7,250 would allow more NR elk hunters in general areas where herds are over objectives, another tool in the toolbox.  Wyoming has by far the highest success rates for general license hunters of any western state, there is no good reason to remove the number of full price elk licenses sold in limited entry areas from the general license quota for nonresidents.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

There are some folks complaining about the points sharing system in Wyoming.   They don't like the guys trading info for points and getting to hunt G/H every year and shooting big deer.

I would venture to guess that is the major driver behind the survey...

I didn't get the survey but think they should leave well enough alone. Unless they get rid of it completely.
