Sturgeon fishing Bonneville pool
« on: June 06, 2018, 02:12:13 PM »
I am thinking about fishing it for Sturgeon June 15th. I am familiar with fishing below the Wuana power lines and did quite well last weekend, but know nothing about up river other than finding a place to launch. I am wondering if there is any place to buy fresh bait near the Dalles Marina. I have an email out, but they seem to be slow at responding. Im used to picking up fresh anchovies the morning of. Do people still use sand shrimp and anchovies that high up river? Or are they using frozen herring and shad? Any tips on where to get bait and what is used high up on the river would help.

I would pick up some squid or Shad. Should be able to buy Shad from the natives that are netting them by cascade locks.

Thanks Magnus100 for responding. I had a feeling that was the bait situation, but was looking for some reassurance.

We used to use pickled anything. Squid, hearing, eel, I've even seen them bite just a dill pickle.

Yup, roll mop herring with the pickle worked great.

Unfortunately I had a family issue come up and was unable to go. I have logged some new sturgeon fishing ideas if I ever make it out of the buoy 10 area. I really want to try some of the upper pools.

Thank you to everyone who chimed in.
