AWESOME! I've always wanted to fish for steelhead but never was shown how due to my dad giving up on it. One of these days I will have to get one of you guys to show me how to get'r done!

My advice,  don't wait to learn.   Go to the river and watch,  talk to the folks that are successful.   Steel head are not easy.

I agree with this except that steelhead aren't easy. They are one of the easier fish to catch in my opinion, once you understand them. WAY easier than silvers and most salmon in general. At least that's my experience. It can take a while to understand what makes them tick though.

I agree with this except that steelhead aren't easy. They are one of the easier fish to catch in my opinion, once you understand them. WAY easier than silvers and most salmon in general. At least that's my experience. It can take a while to understand what makes them tick though.

that, and there just aren't that many of them.  i treat them like big game hunting...95% of being successful is figuring out where they are.  getting one to bite is usually a matter of putting something in front of their face.

Well, that is the hard part, finding the biters. I have yet to get a steelhead, but I've seen them swimming around, in n' out from their holes, but they were not biting anything I've thrown at them.
Maybe, it will get easier one day. lol

Well, that is the hard part, finding the biters. I have yet to get a steelhead, but I've seen them swimming around, in n' out from their holes, but they were not biting anything I've thrown at them.

If you can see them, chances are they aren't biting. Not always true, but generally. Fish that water that is just deep enough that you can't tell whats going on down there. That's where they live.
