I've never actively hunted bears up there but that whole area has lots of bear sign and I've seen a couple while I've been driving over to Camas from the Larch Mountain side.

I went once never saw any bears but saw a monster 4 point that i would like to know if anybody has seen him or tagged him, this was two years ago
You know your hunt went well when you had a shot that was unethical and you never took it, even if you never got your bull.

I was hoping for a new gun for my birthday. The best laid plans... :chuckle:

Talk to the Region 5 office. There's a retired gamie who works in there who might be able to steer you in the right direction. They might also put you in touch with the bio that works out of that office. Buy some game calls from Bearmanric and find someone you can hunt back-to-back with...or get an electronic caller. Spend some time south of Silver Star on the timber land cuts. Get out of your car and put down some leather. Look for turds and check the banks for prints. There are plenty of bears over there. Some of the gated roads prohibit guns, so you'll need a bow for those.

I hike up silverstar 4 or 5 times a year from the pyramid rock side and have yet to see a bear. I am usually breaking out of the trees to the open areas right at daylight and slow down to lookand glass  for animals. I've seen a few deer and pika's but nothing else. Had a friend walk up on one in the trail last year though..

Head back in on the loop trail that connects Mckinley Ridge to Silver Star. Spike camp in there and spend time glassing at first light and evening. They are in there but some of the brush is getting so thick you may just catch glimpses.

My sister faces the south side of it.  They see bears above the tree line frequently.  The bears are around.
Cut em!

Lots and lots of bears up there! Been hiking the Tarbell trail for the last 25 years and very rarely don’t see a bear on the hike. Have a friend who has killed at least 5+ up there in the last 10 years.

Hiked the area last year quite a bit and had a black bear cross the road right in front of me....he was stalking deer and this was at 10am. They are there you just need to glass up some areas.
