Report from Klickitat County
« on: March 14, 2009, 08:24:13 PM »
The birds seem to have survived the winter.  See large groups, with an even number of toms and hens.  One thing that concerns me though happened earlier this week.  My nephew delivers Budweiser from Yakima down to all this area.  He was coming up 142 from highway 14.  Just south of the town of Klickitat he had to bring the semi to a halt.  He had about 50 turkeys in the road.  He shut the engine down and listened to the toms gobble, and watch them strut right there in the middle of the road.  He said it was the long beards as well as the jakes.  Don't know if I like that.  I have not heard any gobbles in our area yet.  But we still have snow in our area.  Should be all gone by the opener.

Just curious, where is your area? My dad and I visited a man named Jerry who lived at the start of the Soda Springs Rd years ago, back when the Yakima Chapter of the NWTF was around. Just wondering if this could be you.

That would be me.  We have lived here since 1990.  I wish the Yakima chapter would get going again.  They had great banquets.

First let me say that I am a member of the N.W.T.F.  Pay my dues every year.  Yes there is a chapter of the NWTF in Goldendale. I did belong, being a charter member.  I do not wish to participate.  Things must be above board for me to belong to any group.
