Sekiu coho
« on: July 06, 2018, 07:05:14 PM »
so I see late sept coho is open this year for hatchery.  In the past you have to weed thru the tons of natives to get your hatchery fish but it is good we get to fish hatchery coho late up there. In the past we use to slam 30 fish a day and after the 15th we got to keep  a native also.  What really burns is the southern Vancouver island FIN FISH closure so NO buying Canadian license and fishing across the border from sekiu like last year.

If you could fish across the border at Sekiu you would have the same rules this year as the good ole Wash state rules....It will be open across from Port Angeles but the Canadian limit this year will also be two hatchery coho...not the 1 wild/1 hatchery as last year so its a Push as far as that goes. I fished the Canadian side last year too and was actually surprised at the numbers of hatchery fish we caught compared to past years when it was about an 8 to 1 number to get a hatchery fish. Was also amazed that the biggest fish we got that was about 15 1/2 pounds was a hatchery fish. I will probably give it a shot after mid september but if I am catching that high number of wilds I probably won't go again...catch and release is fun but I know it probably kills a bunch of those wilds and that is not good.....Good Luck......Les
