ABLR Seating Depth
« on: July 10, 2018, 09:25:55 PM »
What is everyone experience with ABLR seating depth.  Been playing with the 210 gr ablr for the 300 win mag and it is the most finicky bullet I have ever played with.  I am a long way off the lands and finally starting to get decent results but just decent.

Just curious what everyone else has experienced.

thanks in advance

I’ve heard touching or around .100-.120.    Guess it likes a big jump.

Very deep...About 2’ deep in the trash

Couldn’t get them to go fast and accurate both and got sick of trying.

Hate these bullets because of how finicky they are.  I get great accuracy at factory bullet length and way slow in my 06.  It is a long long ways from lands and the only reason I am using them is because I have them and don’t do much with the rifle.  I have tried them in 4 different rifles and gave up on 3 after I felt I was at the same place after shooting over 50 rounds in each.

Amazing performer on game but what a PITA to load! I got them to shoot half minute in a few guns but at pretty pathetic speeds for the caliber. 10 thou off lands is what seemed to work for me in a 7mag, 300wsm, .270, and a 280ai.  Never could get them accurate with a long jump but others seemed to have success with it.  Life is too short to chase good results.  If the margin for accuracy is that small on seating depth then you'll have to continue this headache over and over as your throat erodes.  Nosler needs to come up with a new design  :twocents:

I have a load worked up that works with 200 grain accubonds but had a box of the 210 sitting on the shelf so started playing with them.  Needless to say......I won't be buying anymore.  I was hopeful I could make them shoot but don't think I want to waste anymore time with them.

My 270 Tikka shoots like 3 to 4 inch groups with 150 LRAB's. Best I've seen is 2 inch. Horrible. Then you go and load up 140 Sierra gameking 140s boat tail soft point and 1st group tested at 200 yards was 1/2 inch all touching. With a lot of 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards.
I wanted to use those lr accubonds really bad but I won't waste my time

:yeah: what's the strategic advantage of the LR over the standard if one cannot consistently run it at peak velocity?

To me, none. Some very nice bullets that shoot match grade accuracy and will lay the smack down on fur.

Headed to sportsmans today to buy the Hornaday ELD-X 212 grain bullets.  I was uber frustrated with the accubonds LR's and really wasn't that impressed with the 200 grain accubond in this particular rifle.  Loaded 5 different powder loads with recommended OACL (running short on time).....76.5 grains of H1000 posted a 5 shot group of .71".  Now to tweek and play with the seating depth a little more and HOPEFULLY have a round this rifle likes.

Sooooooo.......never shot the ELD-X before.....Good or Bad??

My rifle LOVES the ELD-X.... but its a 6.5 shoots the 140s like a champ. 5/8" groups all day

I used to shoot the same load with 210 bergers and 76.5gr h1000/cci 250’s.  Es was 6 if I remember correctly.

The only use I’ve found for the ablr is in my daughters 7-08 for a reduced recoil load. Stuffed the case with us869.  2000 FPS MV.  Accurate, low recoil and expands well at lower velocity. Punches clean through white tails at 40 yards too!

Just a friendly PSA here. Remember to check your bullet seater in your die in relation to a new bullet. Some bullets are too long for some dies and you end up trying to seat the bullet from the tip which can result in inconsistencies. I know this isn't news to most but it can be overlooked when trying the new, low drag stuff.  :twocents:

Might want to seat off the ogive.

Always do.  I found out these bullets are super easy to load for.  I have one final test next week at 300 yards.  Currently .020 and .060 off the lands are almost identical groupings at 100 and 200 yards.  .015 was a good group at 100 but opened up quite a bit at 200 yards.  Every other grouping from .02 to .10 off the lands shot pretty darn good.

How does a good load at 100 not shoot well at 200?  Angles presumably don't increase over distance  :dunno:

Windy?
