Solo deer
« on: July 23, 2018, 09:00:34 AM »
I checked a camera this weekend that had been on the backside of a generally productive cut for 13 days. 354 pictures (118 3 shot bursts). 117 of those were triggered by light and/ or wind, and one was this guy.

Nice! It can sure be hard sorting through all those images. I tried to write some image recognition software a while back to pick up animals in giant blobs of images/video but it's shockingly difficult given how different the images can be with lighting.

What direction is that camera facing?

I find that I have better luck facing North or South, away from sunrises and sunsets.  It will limit the amount of sun shots (light movement) you get.

Also, be sure you clear the entire photo area of small grasses and branches that will move in the wind.

You will never eliminate all of these movement photos, but there are ways to mitigate them.

Good luck.

What he said. Maybe try knocking down/cutting/pulling those sword ferns up front. Good luck.

Camera is facing south-east. I moved it to a nearby tree with less in front of it, and took a machete to the bits of tall grass in front. We'll see what happens. In reality, with one animal in 2 weeks, I should move it all together, but he's worth another week or two.
