Do you generally try to stay close to the bottom? or just wherever the fish are at.  How much do those jigs weigh?

If you don't have a fish finder to find the bait balls, drop to the bottom and reel up a few turns.

I typically use the 4 3/4oz jigs for where I fish.  That covers me from about 104-180 ft of water although most fish are in the 110-145 foot range.  I fish another spot that is anywhere from 65-85 ft of water and use the 3 1/2 oz jig.  I jig until i wear my arms out and then go troll.  When the jig bite is good there is no funner way to catch big salmon.  You will lose a few more jigging because you dont have that forward motion of the kicker keeping the line tight, and its tough to keep up to them when they run at the boat, getting a little slack line and tossing your hook(s).

I heavily suggest using a quality braid type of line for your jigging. Also, a fairly stiff action rod. Conventional mono has WAY TOO MUCH banjo give for normal saltwater depths.

if you can't get your hands on a lamiglas "puget jigger"(been discontinued for probably 6 or 7 years now), any good 7'6 -8' back bouncing rod will work.  i like 50lb braid.

in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

The Metzler 6 oz jig in my post above is a proven Chinook jig and halibut too!!!    I have a cherished supply from the 1980's.

Metzler 6 oz jig

I was trying to remember what those were in from your previous post. My Dad swore buy them, and me being a know it back then thought "it does not even resemble a fish, no way it will work", he proved me wrong many times, LOL
