trail cam security boxes
« on: August 10, 2018, 10:10:58 PM »
So having purchased my first two trail cams I am curious how many of you lock them in security boxes as an added measure to keep them from disappearing.  Plan on public land locations, but not on any main trails.   Just seems that 130 for a cam, and another 50 bucks for a box, and lock adds up quickly.

I don't buy boxes or cables, but:

  *  I buy cheap cameras
  *  I personally camoflage them by gluing sticks, etc to them.   Really.   Kind of brings back my childhood.
  *  I try to hide them.....  Hard to do sometimes.
  *  I just know that I'll lose some over time.

My basic theory:   I'd rather have more (cheaper) cams out than a few expensive ones with boxes and cables.

Just how I do it.....

Have fun.

If you have access to a welder you can make your own and make them beefier. I’ve only once put a cam out without a box, my own property, and it was stolen. Everything else is in custom boxes and even then I still have at least one a year stolen. Guys packing sawzalls out to where they’re at and cut them off the trees. Just like Dan-o said, expect to lose one here and there.

Box, Cable lock, and most importantly if worried about theft....put them up HIGH pointed down. Majority will never see them, and if they do will need a ladder or chainsaw to steal.

 :yeah: boxes and cables just more weight to pack in. No thanks.

Just like leaving you truck at the trail head or parked in the woods. It’s not always gonna happen. But sooner or later some DB will come by and break into it.
