Skeeters
« on: August 20, 2018, 03:01:11 PM »
Lots of elk in the area we've been scouting and we're getting really excited for our hunts coming up but the dang mosquitos are out of control. What does everyone use to keep these dang things at bay. Permethrin is doing a decent job but they are still getting through, and I'm also worried that the permethrin is leaving behind a scent. Any secrets out there I'm missing?

I HATE skeeters and no-see-ums (those tiny biting gnats that seem to hang around elk); they can actually ruin a hunt.  Ya, unless you want to be smelly with bug goop, really the only option is a long sleeved shirt (thick enough to thwart bites), light gloves, and a full head net (they'll still buzz around your head, messing with your hearing, but won't be able to bite).  That sucks huge as its usually hot as heck in the archery season.... too hot for a heavier shirt, gloves, and a full head net.  It's shaping up to be a bag bug season for sure, depending on where you hunt.

Thermocell works wonders. Also, If the wind is wrong, you're busted. Regardless of the bug spray you are covered in.
