Colville/K Falls
« on: September 01, 2018, 10:54:03 AM »
Not knowing for sure if a jump from the westside all the way to Idaho or Montana is the right move, wondering about Colville/K Falls area. Spent some time there over the last few days and found some beautiful places for sale and met some very nice people. Saw a ton of whitetails including a dandy 4x4 right on the property I looked at as well as a bunch of quail. Anyone have comments on living in this area for a retired guy who likes to hunt and enjoy the outdoors. Cost of living seems similar to where I live now.

I loved the area.   Just hard to make a living.  If you are past that stage then enjoy!
Make sure you are willing to love snow.

I still film alot there.

Freezing rain, snow, ice and 100 in the summer. I lived 40 miles from KF in Curlew for 16 + years. It might get to -30, yes MINUS 30 in the winter. Normally -15-20 below for a few days. I loved the area except the winters, unless you have a snow machine that's different. I had quads and could leave my backdoor and ride for hours.

Your close enough to Spokane, 70 miles or so, to be able to go to Costco, nice dinner/lunch etc.

Not much for work unless you're related to someone just about, in either town. I had semi trucks hauling wood products, hog fuel, sawdust and chips.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

That us what I am looking for. A place I can jump on a quad and go. Just getting so dang old just dont know how wise it is to do it now. But living on the west side is like being in prison. Dont do this, dont do that. No ohvs allowed anywhere. I just got warned by a park ranger because I had my dog of leash while walking on rails to trails all the way out in Pe Ell. Didnt even know you had to have them on a leash. There were no signs posted. Geesh! You get babysat everywhere you go. You dont get that crap on the eastside it seems. Well thanks for the info guys.

Yes sir.. 2 years ago we moved. Don't need a permit to carry a gun concealed or open carry either. I have a 2017 RZR and can ride it anyplace, except the interstate, if it's licensed and insurance. No gun free zones either. I have not seen one commie sign, in any town, or any place else.

I would go to to ID or MT. The west side of WA is slowly sucking the soul out of the east side with their liberal garbage. Unfortunately we are like an abused spouse trying to escape a bad relationship but they just have to much oversight and control to break free. Idaho is so close but so far away :'(

If you move to Pinetop, Show Low you won't be in the heat in the summer.

The heat here is dry heat, heck, I'm used to it......

You gotta think beyond hunting and fishing license fees when you move, especially when you're 65.

We bought 20 acres in the Hunters area about 20 years ago. Started small on raw ground and finally got our house up and spend a good deal of time there. Soon moving over full time. It's a great area with mostly mind your own business neighbors. Haven't had anyone ask how I voted or what church I go to.  Great year around fishing on Lake Roosevelt and we have deer in our backyard everyday. Everyone around seems to have a quad with no problem riding as long as you're sensible. Stevens county is very easy to work with on the various permits. Winters are cold, we've hit 10 below a time or two but it's not intolerable. 5 hour drive to Seattle. Lot of reasonably priced land available and no traffic jams. Works well for us over there.

Thats what I am looking for baldopepper. Guess I have to give it a try. If it doesnt work out I can always pack up and try another place. At 64 though I cant wait around forever. I'm afraid if I dont give it a try, it will bug the heck out of me for the rest of my life.

I’ve been hunting Stevens county for the past 15 years and grow fonder of it with every trip. A friend retired near Rice.  Freedom loving like minded Americans surrounded by beautiful country. The wife and I may just end up there ourselves one day.

Born and grew up in KF.  Turned 18 in the Army because I knew there was no way I could make a living there. I visit mom a few times a year, hunt and fish up there from time to time, but employment-wise, it doesn't look like much has changed.  If you are retiring though, it's a good place to be.  One caveat, the wolves have embedded there lately.
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I wish I had not waited so long. Here it is hunting season and I am not there yet. Maybe that will give me time to look around more for the right place. Found one place already but its only 7 miles out of Colville but there are deer all over the place.

Stevens County Commissioners passed a resolution opening county roads to ATV/UTV use a couple years or so ago. You still cannot go on state highways or forest service maintained roads. (Communist) I mean Conservation Northwest has convinced USFS in WA to limit nearly all recreational vehicle use.

Hippies.......

In Idaho, you have to have your ORV's licensed. You can ride them on any road except the freeway. I used to go over there all the time to Wallace and Avery riding. Also, near Kings Lake in Washington you can ride your ORVs on any road because Idaho controls that part of the forest circus forest. I think it's Kalispell something.

There are some F.S. roads you can ride on in Stevens County. You need a MUV map or whatever they call them. There is riding up at Beaver Lodge.

I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

some shady people up onion creek. In northport they are referred to as the "hill" people. No power or running water in their little compound. Ran into a mother pimping her 14-16yr old daughter out in the whitebird one night.

Maybe that's why I could never get a female realtor to come up to Northport and show me some acreage for sale. Tried 4 times and she said she would show me and it never happened. Finally gave up.

A lot of hippies moved into this area over the years to get away from the city, grow weed, and live off the land. But overall the majority are good people living throughout the area, even in Onion Creek, but some of the trash that has moved in you do want to avoid. All in all the area is a great place to live and raise kids. I've lived here my whole life and raised our kids here. I know every part of the Tri county area (Ferry, Stevens, and Pend Oreille counties). Feel free to send me a message before you buy and I'll offer some local advice regarding the good or bad. There are a lot of people making a very good living in the Tri-County area, you just need to figure out how to do that before you move here. There's lots of home based businesses and even people who moved here and that still have businesses in other states or areas of WA. If you work for the government you might be able to transfer, Colville is the main center of business and government offices north of Spokane for this corner of the state. There are other jobs too, if a person wants to work you can probably find a job but I would have the financial part figured out before you move here. I didn't read the whole topic, maybe you have all that figured out. Feel free to send a message if you have questions about a particular area.

some shady people up onion creek. In northport they are referred to as the "hill" people. No power or running water in their little compound. Ran into a mother pimping her 14-16yr old daughter out in the whitebird one night.

 :yeah:
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

How about after the fact?   :dunno:  :chuckle:
Economy failure = Too many people spending money they don't have on things they don't need to impress people they don't like.

I'm not sure which place you bought but I bet you've got wolves nearby and will have deep snow! Oh yes, watch out for forest fires!  :chuckle:
