Island park idaho
« on: September 05, 2018, 09:14:52 AM »
Leaving for island park tomorrow and have been trying for 3 weeks to get a hold of the biologist.  Im hoping someone could help me with some logistics of where to camp particularly in unit 61.   Was hoping to stay out of the state parks and such im towing a 14 foot trailer behind my toyota.   id like to focus on the continental divide but doesnt appear to have many roads.  im just trying not to have to unhook my trailer and leave all my gear on the road while i scout for a good location.  Any help would be great.

Its a big unit, stretches quite a distances east to west with the divide stretching the whole northern boarder.  Do you have onxmaps on your phone? You can camp off of any of the national forest service roads for up to 16 days.  Onxmaps will show you some good roads into the area and I assume you wont have any trouble finding a good spot to pull out and and park the trailer.

Good luck on your hunt. I'm leaving tomorrow night. Stay safe and shoot straight.

Figured it was easier to resurrect an old thread than clutter with a new one and this was the only one I found...

Headed over September 12th til the end of the month if needed for archery elk with my boss.  Anyone hunted there recently and have any tips besides not getting eaten by a griz?  :chuckle: :chuckle: We have done some scouting and found a few promising areas but it is a huge area so any pointers would be much appreciated!

I wonder how 3dvapor did on his hunt??  I’d try that phone number above, been a few years but maybe he’s around still to give advice??  Good luck
