ATV-what do you carry on board?
« on: September 05, 2018, 01:40:30 PM »
Curious what you all keep with you on your atv for the what if and oh no moments? I just recently started using atvs for elk because I'm hunting new country and I finally had the money to buy one.

Some mule tape, rope, extra pair of gloves, some baling wire, are in the "trunk". I carry saddle bags for what ever I need for any given ride.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

Slime w/air pump that works. I've never had a flat, but have been with people who have.
Extra gas.
Flash light. I blew a fuse for my lights at night.
PLB. Personal Locater Beacon. I started carrying one wolf hunting in Idaho because I hunted alone..
Tools that work for your machine. Not a bunch of tools thrown together.
Fire Extinguisher
Small Shovel

Some of this are required to be in the Nation Forest and Timber Companies at certain times. I just started carrying the stuff in general. Felt a little better in case something happened.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Licensed with a plate they give you. I think it's like $13. Call the Wallace DMV and they will tell you exactly.

Ya but what I meant is there anything required in terms of fire suppression?  Like shovel, fire ext. or something?  I don't remember reading that but thought you may know.  Its funny that my Uncle (retired log trucker) has moved to Az as well.  He loves it too.

Thanks for the responses.  Just trying to make sure I wasn't missing something as I do a lot of scouting and hunting solo as well.

tire plug kit, small air compressor/pump.
a flat on a side by side or quad usually makes for a long trip home.

I think timber companies want you to carry a 5 gallon bucket OR your helmet works too. I've never had any problem in Idaho. My wife got stopped once by the forest circus LEO to check her license plate for being up to date and that's it.

A really cool place to go is ELK CITY. There's Red River (?) hot springs going towards McGruder (SP) Pass in a lodge and it's $5 to get in. Really nice and refreshing. Hippies run it.

Toilet paper, Flask of Your favorite beverage.
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

tire plug kit, air compressor ($10 walmart one, had it for years even submerged it, just can't kill it) butt wipe, gloves, winch cable extension, block and some rain gear, water

I don't like to load it too heavy like some dudes I've ridden with.

Gun rack.......almost forgot one of the most important thing.

Insurance is a must. You have to insure them, as Idaho treats them like a normal vehicle. You have to show you have proof of insurance to get your plate AND you MUST take your REGISTRATION with you to get the plate too.
