An unusual idea
« on: September 05, 2018, 02:50:59 PM »
With all of these cell-enabled trail cameras, if you need help, one thought is to stand in front with a sign saying "help, call 911". :dunno:

That's exactly what I would do.... IF I needed help and just happened to be next to someone's trail cam which happened to be cellular capable. I probably won't bank on having one around if I break my leg but seems like a good idea if it did happen. (With my luck the batteries would be dead)

What about people doing it as a "prank" and sending SAR on a wild goose chase?

If you have the means to write "help" or "sos" then why not add your coordinates also if you have a gps?  Just in case the cam owner forgot where his cam was placed.  Win - Win.  :chuckle:

Couldn't you just use your own phone to call or text for help? :dunno:

I just stay in the truck and leave phone plugged in so as not to have to worry about a dead cell battery.. but just in case I leave a trail of beer cans down the road in case I get lost!! :sry: :chuckle:

Picked up a elk hunter today who waited for help in front of a trail camera.

Trail camera modems have signal boosters built in, so if you have no service, does not mean the camera has no service.

Interesting, that's good to know!

I am not sure I am familiar with heavy power packs for phones. The ones I have will charge a phone twice and weigh just a few ounces.

I have two and are only a couple of inches on a side.
