Fundraiser for the elk guide killed in Wyoming
« on: September 17, 2018, 04:22:41 PM »
A friend of mine and member of our forum here who's not around much anymore asked me to share this here with a little info on Mark Uptain, the elk guide who was killed by a grizzly bear attack while getting an elk out with his hunter Friday afternoon in Wyoming.

“Also please feel free to share Marks family funding page.   He left a Wife and 5 young kids behind.    Tell you what that was a horrific situation that played out here this weekend.   These bears are no joke and have become real thugs.    There is an encounter every week that never gets reported.   Now that they are squashing the grizzly hunt and salting the area with problem bears from areas, it’s just a matter of time before it happens again.
I can see the hill top where Mark died from my cabin.   After the call came in from Corey the client, Bobbi, myself and two of our wranglers were the first ones to get to base of Terrace Mtn on horse back Friday evening to get lat/lon locations out to the chopper to get the client off the Mtn.    Despite being able to see the Mtn it was still a 4 hour horse ride one way and there was no way to get up the Mtn to Mark in the dark.   Then Saturday the Ranch served as the operation base for the search and recovery and yesterday F&G left from here to deal with the bears.”

Here's the link to the GoFundMe page for the family.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield
