Thinking of up grading my scope something simple in the 500.00 range its on my 06 and wondering if it was worth changing rings.

No matter what quality,magnification,or type of hunting you do a 30 mm scope has more surface area to clamp down with rings.If that was the only plus to the size of scope tube it would be enough for me.  :twocents: But its not the only in my opinion.The 30 mm has more travel than a 1 inch. making it better for the long range shooter.

I prefer a 30mm, especially if your shooting distance and plan on dialing.
What scopes are you looking at?

The larger has way more vertical and windage adjustment.

It doesn’t make a difference for brightness like many think it does.

Shave weight with the 1".
That's about the only advantage.
Though some folks will say that small of weight saving means nothing, they are most likely not the guys hiking the gun around 10+ miles a day.
Other than that, the advantages of the 30 Trump the 1. Though I admit I did sell a 30 to buy a 1 for my weight conscious setup.

If your scope is going to have a dial on it for elevation, long distance, than a 30mm will give you more distance adjustments.  If you do not intend on long range dial out past say 600 yards than a 1inch will do fine.

okay  I am confused. y'all are saying the 1" is smaller and lighter.
Are the dimensions nominal because 30mm is closer to 13/16" and would be smaller/lighter than 1"  :dunno:

1" = 25.4mm
30mm = 1 3/16"

I have a Zeiss terra 3x9 42mm thinking of a viper 6.5x14 x44mm I like the BDC to keep it simple
