Release aid suggestions?
« on: October 08, 2018, 04:18:03 PM »
Just got my first bow, going to get geared up for 2019. What do you all use and suggest for a release aid?
Thanks

Did you get your bow at a good archery shop?   Where I got my bow I tried out a bunch of different releases,  even if they don't have a bunch already out for you to try out maybe they'll open a package or two and let you try that.

I would suggest you try at least 2 wrist strap releases, caliper and j hook style.

tru-fire had a decent release that I used quite a bit in the archery shop.

same thing, but in a caliper style and less $

I would like to try this one out, it's a captive J hook style hand held

This is my current release I've used since they first came out, it's served me well but for competition it's a bit stiff and you can punch that thumb button if you develop a bad habit.

If you flinch on the shot, or have target apprehension you might be better off with a hand held.

IMO the biggest negative with hand helds is they're easy to loose!   If you find a good hand held you really like,...... get two  ;)

edit:  I also tried out some high end carter releases and found them very nice to shoot, but too complicated for hunting.  I follow KISS on my hunting stuff.  (KEEP IT STUPID SIMPLE) effective, reliable and hard to mess up when it really counts.
