2pt Bucks
« on: October 07, 2018, 10:09:21 PM »
Just wrapped my muzzle season. Loads of 2pt bucks running around in the GMUs I hunt in EWA. Look hard before you shoot. I had at least 5 mature 2x2s in range. Will try again for modern. Good luck this weekend.

I hunt the same ranch every year, in EW, and have found that most of the 2 points just get a little bigger, but remain 2 points their whole life. I have see 30" 2 points on the piece of ground, and they are the dominant buck. WDFW's policy is effectively breading out anything with eye guards, and promoting mature 2 pints that will only produce 2 points! No other western state managers Mule Deer in this fashion......and they wonder why the populations are dwindling! I have heard the wildlife biologist, from Winthrop, publicly state that there are just as many Mule deer in the Winthrop area as there have always been...….maybe it's time for him to go outside once in a while?

A lot of them get shot and then left once the person realizes it’s a 2 point.

I've have been out hunting and scouting many areas here in Eastern Washington and have noticed the same thing this year! Each year it's getting worse. This year have counted 9 two points and a handfuls of spikes and 2x1's. More two points then I have ever seen. Been up high and down low and couldn't find a mule deer with 3 points. During September I saw two leagal bucks but couldn't get close enough for a acceptable bow shot. No eye gaurds to be found during muzzleloader season. Not sure what to do at this point. I've covered alot of land. Hopefully late bow season can bring me a doe up north.

I would guess they are still around... bucks acquire a crazy amount of knowledge in the first year or 2 of life. They can become very good at hiding

I think it's just a curse. Usually only lasts 2 days though, then a 3 point magically appears and I forget about the million 2 pts I saw until next year.
I would agree that some dont mature past 2 points though. They just get bigger. I've gone on some long stalks only to get there and it's the biggest 2 point I've ever seen. Can be frustrating sometimes

I live  in Klickitat  county and all summer have had 2 legal bucks in my back yard cleaning up fallen apples and grapes.

They are out there.
Yet while we were still sinners Christ died for us.

Just imagine if all the twos and spikes could be killed too.  Then how many deer would you see after day one?  Ya, I lived it, and that’s when we had a strong stable herd.  I’d be happy you had the thrill of seeing a deer, and the thrill of trying to grow a point on it.

I’ve seen a lot of these mature 2 points and 95%+ of the time they are 1.5-2.5

I went to an any buck Oregon mule deer unit this year and saw over 100 does and one spike. Just be happy you see bucks and keep filtering through them  :)
