Basin duck opener?

I haven't heard much chatter about the opener in the Potholes area. Did anyone brave the toxic algae bloom? Were the small waters effected? Was it pretty quiet or did a lot of guys go anyway? I skipped it and won't likely go until sometime in November. Were the non effected areas extra mobbed because no one wanted to go to the Potholes area?

We were out Saturday and sunday. Saturday was pretty decent with a strong wind. Sunday was a typical day after opener. Wary birds and tough hunting. It could use a could front to bring in some more birds.

As much as it pained me, I skipped the opener to be safe. Of course, the spot I was going to go is best on windy days and Saturday was windy but I just didn't want to chance it.

Went by the mar don launch saturday and saw a bass guy trying to put it on the trailer. The waves were crashing over the top of his SUV, felt sorry for him, but some duck hunters were on there way to assist him. Reminds me of trying to launch and retrieve at the old drano launch. Sometimes you just gotta call it a day, hope he didn't suffer to much damage

Hunted small waters that *may* not have been affected by the bloom and they were definitely more crowded than I've ever seen them on the opener. Six rigs in the lot by 4:30 am. Last year there were three. 10 rigs total by the end of the morn. Busy! Not sure if the algae pushed them there or what, but it was a party.

Headed that way tomorrow to scout geese for a bit and then do a little duck hunting and hunt the pheasant opener.

The "Boys on the Hill" above the golf  course say the wind has kept them off the water a few days. They go out after daylight and set up. Said very few birds as of yesterday. I think they shot a Hollywood hen and a teal. Hearing some shooting on the east side crab creek channel. Water is coming up. Bass fishing slow.
