Could a guy have a 26” #5 contour barrel on a remmy 700 action with a Bell & Carlson or HS precision stock & keep the bare rifle weight to around 8lbs?

I want to upgrade my 700DM 300wm with a barrel & stock but keep cost to a minimum. Any suggestions are welcome.👍🏻

I don’t think that would get you there. I have a lone peak razor action with a 26 inch #5 and a manners stock and am over 8 lb. if you spiral fluted the barrel yu would be closer but I think the hs stock is still a bit too heavy to get you there.

I want it to be a well balanced hunting rifle with 800 yd accuracy but not be over 9lbs. I have a tikka superlight in 7RM. While it is super accurate, I find it a bit difficult to shoot accurately out to distance being so light. Thinking something 8-9 would be the ticket but not have to lug a 12-13 lb Lr rifle into the high country. Am I dreaming having a tight budget?

Getting an Elite stock aint easy.  Been digging through their website, and unless you wait 4-6 months likely not going to find one laying around.

Hang a spiral fluted #5 off that tikka and get a lightweight stock and you’ll be pretty good

Get it ordered ASAP.manners and McMillan are both long lead.  Another option is AGcomposite. Quicker turn around time on them

killer stocks as well!  Wish I had gotten hands on one before I ordered my last McMillan.

That’s an idea but I kind of want to shoot a 200+ grainer out of the 300 wm & it’s accuracy is less than desirable. Wondering if factory magazine length with heavy for caliber bullets would be an issue in either the 700DM 300 wm or tikka 7 mag?

sorry to threadjack the op. But you would wouldn’t get everything you need in length from the tikka for the 300. I am loading 215 to a oal of 3.74 in my 300 win. A long throated 300 wsm could be pretty good on a tikka. Except it would still be a tikka.  :chuckle: had to get my jab in!

I wouldn't recommend their tikka option.

Tikka action is not that great for LA cartridges with long heavy bullets. It's great for SA cartridges with heavies. I have a 7wsm that's throated out and get about 3000fps with 180s which is similar to 7 mag performance.

My 5’s are both 26 before the brake. And in a similar stock and they come in 8.5-9lbs bare. One has a oversized bolt knob and Wyatt’s bottom the other is just hinged floor plate so it’s about 1/2  pound or so lighter.

Yep, 9 month build time on mine - 6 mo for stock, 7 for barrel, 5 for action. Then add 6 weeks for hydrodip After rifle in their hand.

Sorry for the thread jack but I appreciate all the input from the resident gun guys. Would like to hear more on the performance of the 7wsm/180’s from a built tikka?🤔
