6.5 calibers

Love my 6.5 PRC. 143grn Hornady ELD-x at 2930fps. It’s a flat shooting laser with .322” group at 100yds.

The PRC is everything the Creedmore wanted to be but isn't.

too bad they can’t seem to get the dies right.  Many of the 6.5 prc dies will not size the base enough

Its bigger !     If shooting elk mite squeeze by with 6.5, if just deer 243 is great unless you want to borrow hers then get the 6.5!

Just punched two tags in SE Montana this week with my 264 Win Mag and the 156 Berger.  The 6.5s are great for deer and antelope. Both critters were DRT.

Back in the early 90's I chose the 7mm-08 for a big game caliber. As a reloader, it has great versatility.  When Remington came out with the .260, I nearly switched over as my wife started hunting with me. I was always a fan of the 6.5 X 55, but with my petite wife a short action Rem model 7 was a perfect fit, and the one we found was in 7mm-08.

The .260 never caught on, but 6.5 Creedmoor has caught fire.  Is there an advantage to the Creedmoor Vs. the .260 or the 6.5 X 55?

Just pondering these things On hiatus from work awaiting Covid test results! All 3 of my children (now adults) use a 7mm-08 like me, Unfortunately my wife passed away and only hunts with us in spirit now.

Alls Ill say about it is I have both .243 and 6.5 cm and I shoot the 6.5 with 130gr bullets at near .270 velocities, and we all know the lethality of the good ol .270.

Same velocities from my .243 but with a 105gr bullet. 

Make sure your barrel twist supports the heavy for caliber bullet selection if you go that way.  Also dont just look at muzzle velocity stability, look at down range velocities to determine where/when the bullets enter marginal or worse stability.

Not much more needs to be said.All firearms are great but if you want the best in a specific caliber these little steps matter.

They’re fun to shoot. Not a lot of knockdown power.  Most seem to shoot well.  On the small side for mule deer or bear.

I like all the 6.5's but partial to the 260 as a matter of personal preference.  I am also a big fan of the 7mm-08.
