What to expect
« on: October 22, 2018, 02:13:07 PM »
this year is my first year really getting into upland hunting, my father recently bought a chunk of land in the Bridgeport area and I was wondering if anyone had any experience hunting in that area? What birds to expect? He has a ton of quail around but I was wondering if anyone has experience of birds other then quail in that area. Any info is greatly appreciated

Lots of huns and a few chukars.  Pheasant is poor.    Quail coming out your ears.

Huns and maybe chukar. Pheasants few and far between

Haven’t ever shot any huns how do they eat? I spend a lot of time around loomis during late archery season and we are always seeing pheasants over in that area. Thank you fellas for your knowledge I appreciate it

All the above is my experience as well. Lots of quail in Bridgeport area, we have got into chukar up the hill towards Waterville, huns around too. As mentioned pheasants are pretty rare. I too have seen many pheasants in Loomis area but access is very tough. Got some huns and lots of quail south of Loomis as well. All of them eat good . Good luck!!

Make sure you get a couple pics of him and his catch.  We love to see proud hunters.

Not the east side but here’s our birds from today, one day shy of 11 months old he put up four birds on a very crowed 2600 acre release site where they only release maybe 70 birds. Definitely proud of him.

Well done! Release site hunting can be very tough for a young dog. He has some drive and ability for sure . Best of luck on the east side, you will love it!! Some great areas right out of where you will be.
