T/C Compass Bolt Action Rifle
« on: October 22, 2018, 11:54:46 AM »
Here is my review on this rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor.

These rifle retails for $350 every day, but can be found on sale for under $300 and quite often with an additional rebate. This one was $225 out the door after rebate. They are available in many different cartridges. One of the reasons i like this rifle is it has a 3 position safety. It comes with a threaded barrel for muzzle breaks which would come in handy for the bigger/magnum cartridges.

Mounted a Vortex 4-12x40 on it with Vortex low rings. Thanks @jackelope
Got it boresighted

Went to range and fired a box of 140gr Core Lokts to break it in. They were not bad and my son was able to hit the 12" steel at 220yards(confidence booster for him). Next we shot Hornady ELD-X 143gr, but these didn't group consistently. Next up was the Nosler Ballistic Tip 120gr, after 6 rounds the rifle was zeroed.  Thanks @h20hunter

My thoughts: The action started a lil rough, but after a dozen shots and running a cloth & cleaner up the barrel every 2 rounds wiping down and re-oiling the bolt it smoothed out. It is not a custom rifle and the bolt does have some play. My son (15) @MTBvenison was doing all the shooting since its his rifle. The recoil felt was minimal and after 40 rounds he had no complaints of soreness.

We took it for a walk last weekend in the Hucklberry and she performed flawlessly.      I will let MTBvenison post the pictures and tell the story.

Overall this is a decent rifle and I would have no issue reccomending it.

Thanks for the review.

I was going to buy a T/C Compass two months ago, in .308. I really liked what they had to offer with these rifles, especially the 60 degree throw on the bolt handle . But things changed and I went a different route for the rifle I purchased.

Got the same deal/package in .300 WM a while back.  Still trying to find a load it likes.   Lightened the factory trigger and I couldn't get it below about 4 pounds and stay drop safe at 18".  Bought an aftermarket spring kit and didn't see much difference.  The 3 position safety is a nice feature, bolt is pretty smooth, threaded barrel is a plus, and the price is right.
