Packwood Area
« on: October 24, 2018, 07:56:24 PM »
Hi everyone,

New to this site and was hoping to reach out for some info.  I'm hunting packwood this year and i'll be heading out there to scout next week.  Not looking for anyone to diverge all their secret spots or anything but are there some roads that would be a good start for me?  I'll do the rest.  Hoping to get into some areas closed from traffic.

Worked hard to get a good bull in northern idaho this season and am hoping to help my buddies fill their freezers as well.  Thanks everyone

-Derrick

Heres a pic of my bull, not sure how to rotate the image

My experience is that Packwood and Randle areas are tough because the no shooting zones and private land areas in both towns just suck all the elk in and there literally is hardly anything left in the hills around the area.  If you get away from the crowds somehow you might have a chance but it's tough to even do that these days.  I think they start moving into town during September just from all the mushroom pickers in the woods.

The elk also stay up in the park until the snow hit. So from someone who lives in packwood there is only the local heard of cows and a few small bulls.  Hunting here is like the east side.  Everybody road hunts then is surprised when they only see a few cows...

If you don’t have any spots that are a go in that area. I would search elsewhere. My family tried playing that game years ago and it was just a big waste of time for years
