My first thought is he already dead?
Great post and an awesome Blacktail...that one made me laugh hard!  Maybe he was so old he had hearing problems?  What is your estimate on age?

Dude!  You're killin'  me.  Another big old *censored* again this year?  Massive body.  What do you think he weighed on the hoof?  Congratulations on another incredible success!

The real answer is I won’t ever know because I can’t drag a buck like that out  :chuckle:  based on how heavy the two loads of meat were and how thick he was (53” girth around the heart) I would have to say he was at or very near the 300 mark.  I looked up some ‘weight tape’ charts which is a very crude way to get a weight but he’s off the chart on all of them and they usually stop at 300# with a few inches less girth.  Either way a tank of a body and fun to speculate what it actually was

.300 win mag Berger vld shot at an angle. That was the entry hole, it fragmented all through the neck severing the spine.  He was bedded and his chin hit the dirt with a thud

maybe 10 or 11.  not much left for teeth, looks like he had been regressing for at least a couple years.
