Anyone have experience with Tract Optics?
« on: October 01, 2018, 02:34:46 PM »
I've seen Tract Optics' name pop up a few times and am debating getting a pair of their binoculars.  Does anyone have any experience with their products?  If so, what can you tell me?

The product reviews for Tract are solid.  But the one thing that always hangs me up is a guarantee from a company without any guarantee they'll be around in 5-10 years...

Anyone have experience with Tract Optics?

I can tell you that I love my Toric scope (2 2-10X42 BDC) very happy with my purchase. I considered (non scientific) several others in the $600 to $800 range.  In this price range nothing compares IMHO.

I will know more after this season how much I like the Toric binos I got this spring. Much better (visually and construction) than the Vortex Diamondbacks I have used the last couple years, although I realize they are in entirely different price ranges...

Both look and feel very well constructed. The scope was pretty much zeroed at 100 when mounted new (dumb luck), when sighting for 200 the clicks were true. It held true this year when I went to the range as well. Easy to sight in and held zero as any good scope should.

No comment on the warranty (guarantee).

I do know that they continue to expand thier lines and offerings which says to me that they are doing well. It's a great business model. I suspect they will be around for a while especially with the latest release of 30mm tubes for long distance and a soon to be spotter.

Booner, thanks for sharing your experience.

I went ahead and ordered the Toric 8x42 binos.  I'm going to compare against the Vortex Viper HD I picked up.  I'll post an update for anyone who is interested.

Please do, I'm curious to know what you think between these two, I've heard comparisons that put the Toric on par with Razor HD's.

Quick review of Tract Toric UHD 8x42:

Pros:
+ great quality and feel
+ very good image quality
+ decent price for very good optics
+ 30-day no questions asked return policy
+ very responsive company / customer service
+ very good in low light

Cons: there weren't any real negatives, but these binoculars just aren't for me and are going back.
- although the image quality was very good, it wasn't THAT much better than my current Vortex Diamondbacks.  If I didn't have a pair and was choosing between the Diamondbacks and the Torics, I would take the Torics all day long.  However, it wasn't enough of a jump for me to shell out $525 on the Torics after having spent $200 on the Diamondbacks.  I'm planning to go for Swarovski, Leica, etc. once I have the reserves.  I want to see an image quality jump like you have going from 240p to 1080p.  I'd rather wait to get that later than do a slight upgrade now, but that's just my situation.

The Torics seemed better than the Vortex Viper HD as well.  The Viper HDs also went back to the store.  Again, the slight upgrade to what I already had wasn't worth the expense.
