Manastash cow tag????
« on: October 29, 2018, 09:21:59 AM »
My brother has a Manastash cow tag that opens up this Wednesday.  I usually hunt the Saturday opener but we didn't get a chance to this year.  Just wondering if any of you all have been hunting the Joe Watt Canyon area, Wineager canyon, and up around the old hog farm and if you have seen any elk this year in that area?  In years past there has always been elk and more elk if the weather has changed some.  Last few years we have hardly seen a thing and actually my daughters had to eat their cow tags due to no elk.  Just wondering if anyone is seeing cows in the area.  Thanks

My buddy's are up there 5 of them. They have seen no elk and there are a lot of people moving around so the elk should have been moving. The weather is way to warm he said. I was going to head that way Thursday but not unless the weather comes in for some reason. Good luck

Just got home from there. Saw 7 cows. Was way up top.caught them in an open field after the nasty rain storm a night ago. Was hoping my spike was in there but no luck. Wish I had a cow tag. Partner is still up there. No movement or action tonight

Nothing up here at all.  Just deer, Turkey and one bear spotted.  Worse year that I can remember. :bash:

It has been super rough elk numbers are super low I have seen six elk in 5 days of hunting. I did help a little with the future population by shooting a female cougar on Monday in the manastash could have shot two if I had another tag. Another guy shot a big bear while I was up there as well. Seen more deer than I ever have up their this year just no elk. Good luck finding a cow hope your brother can connect.

I'm just filling along here.  My daughter has a youth cow tag that's good for all of next week.  We will be heading over this afternoon.

Seen more deer than I ever have up their this year just no elk.

We too saw considerably more than deer than normal.  Only saw 12 cows down in the reserve area below Joe Watt.  Camped up Hutchins, hunted down low, then went high for a couple of days near North Fork Manastash and over by Mole Mountain.  The many people we talked with had similar elk sightings......

Had a buddy that was in there tell me the same thing about the deer situation, only saw 5 elk but saw all kinds of deer including a couple nice bucks, weird :dunno:

Saw very few elk. Lots of deer. Never seen so many as this year. Hunted all week with a Spike tag. Most disappointing Elk hunting trip in this spot in over 10 years.
More 4x4's and UTVs/ATV's than I can remember as well. Heading east next year.
Good luck finding a cow. Saw 2 opening day at 600 yards and didn't see another elk.
