Cz527 300 black out problems
« on: October 30, 2018, 10:55:31 PM »
Just shipped my Cz back to them as the best groups are over 3 inches. Had my shooting buddy shoot a 10 shot group at 100 yards  it measured 6.5inches with only 9 holes in the target. ( he is a 4 time cba champion so he can shoot) The largest group was with federal 150 gr. sp. I have tried several different bullets and all were poor shooters. '
I am not really slamming Cz as everyone I know really likes them and has been very happy with the accuracy. just wondering if others have had problems with the 300 blk out.  I would expect groups from an ar-15 to be over an inch but a high quality bolt action should shoot some small groups. anyone have any experience with the black out of a bolt action?

Not specific to a bolt action, but I've seen some pretty horrendous accuracy (or lack of) from factory Remington 300 Blk ammo, specifically the subsonic loads.

The cartridge is fully capable of great accuracy with the right loads though.

Factory loads or your reloads?  Guns can Def have a sweet spot or grain range they like.  Picture attached is from my bolt action 308.
Two "groups" both shot aiming at bullseye from 100yrds off bipod and rear bag.  I was shooting the 180grn to verify zero and warm up barrel prior to shooting a load ladder.

The shots all over the place are 180grn factory loads, I had similar though smaller groups with 150grn factory ammo I tried (4 different factory loads).
The pair just below bullseye are 165grn Sierra game kings.  The final 3 of that group were on my load development target and were sub moa.

That said I had to do similar with a Bear Creek AR barrel.  It was 6moa, they replaced it and the new one is ~1.5moa with my basic plinking rounds.

you ask a good question factory or handloads.... I have shot both and never had a rifle shoot over 6 inch groups at 100 yards. well never that is until now. I have been shooting reloading etc for almost 60 years and this rifle is the worst I have ever seen.  now to answer your question.  handloads use the same primer, bullet case and in some cases the same powder. there is nothing special about either factory or handloads except the care taken in putting all the stuff together. Most of my everyday shooting is done with cast bullets, and shoot small groups if assembled correctly from first rate components. I understand the sweet spot you mention but with this rifle I have put around 500 rounds of ammo down the tube and havent found it yet.  I have loaded jacketed bullets from 110 to 220 gr. and used half a dozen different powders. tried 3 different scopes just to make sure that was not the problem. It will be interesting to find out what CZ does with it.  I do know I would not sell it in the condition it is currently in.

WOW,
Yeah you did your due diligence for sure!  Hopefully they find something and get you sorted out.  I understand frustration with a poor grouping rifle.  My Savage I was almost to the point of selling it then found the 165grn sweet spot.

I really hope they can find a cause for the problem and not just send it back telling me there is nothing wrong. There is no way I could sell it to anyone without being honest and that would drop the price to an unacceptable level. if they dont do something I will probably wind up placing it in the back of the safe ( hmmmm maybe on the porch ) and forgetting I have it. it could be barreled but I would have to be sure that is the problem. I really dont want to spend more money on it. I could put a barrel on it for less than 2 hundred but who knows for sure if that would fix it. for sure when I get it back I will post what happens.

I received an e-mail from CZ this morning and they are sending me  a new rifle. my faith in man kind has been restored. This is proof that it pays to purchase from a first rate company. whatever happens now I will not blame them. I have heard some bad things about the accuracy of the 300 blackout. it makes on sense the cartridge should shoot like a house afire. it has almost everything everyone says is needed to shoot small groups. short case nice neck length. small primer flat no reason why it wont shoot well.
I will add more when I get a chance to shoot it. a good test will not come when it is too cold to hold the rifle, but none the less I will update soon. I would like to hear from others who have a blackout in a bolt action to see how they are doing and what they are doing.
