Nice try covering it up!!!!
«

To whoever shot the cow on the 547A nice try and attempting to cover it up with grass. It looks as if it was shot on the road drug off and then looks as if they tried to gut and cut a front shoulder off. Got scared or something and picked all the grass off the hill behind it and tried to cover it up to not be seen again. I just don’t get how in a 3 point or bigger unit you can mistake a cow for a bull unless you are to dang trigger happy. Just gets to my nerves.

Just for clarification sake:
1) did you report it?
2) is it possible that a vehicle struck it?
3) if possibly a vehicle, could a bear have covered it up in grass?
but ya, poaching sucks! Especially Elk

Well we had guys go down the road last night and it was t there and then this afternoon it was. Don’t believe at all it was hit by a truck. And it was cut with a knife not by claws from a bear.

Hate to hear that.
My son found a buck with only the head sawed off during 2nd weekend of modern rifle.

cats like to cover up kills with grass and twigs, so do bears. It doesn't make since that a hunter would cover it up with grass, if interrupted they'd just abandon the whole thing not sit there and pluck grass to cover it up.
A bear will make a mound, a cat will kinda make a feeble attempt to cover it some, but nothing like a bear.

What gets me on the whole thing is you can see where it was drug from the road and placed perfect to have guts roll out down hill and looks as if it has a small bullet hole right in front of the ear. Just really weird to me. I could be wrong that it was a poached animal. I’d feel better if it was nature and not a wrongful deal.

No pics will try tomorrow. I have seen cat and bear kills before. Looks nothing like them.

I saw this same elk talked about on facebook and pics. It was definitely a cat kill and the warden was called and inspected it as well

Darn cougars with knives... I tell ya. They probably brought a Dewalt along and drilled that hole in the Elk too! Should have turned em in for poaching.

It was a Rigid drill. Saw the receipt in the bush. All kidding aside though, that would be a fantastic time to sit on it for a cat for sure. My cousin killed a nice cat with his 309 JDJ off a kill like that. Then he killed another one with his 454 Casull at 5 yards out of his blind a few years later. We need to get this cat population in control.
