6.5 Creedmore velocities
« on: November 25, 2018, 10:31:27 AM »
Well I took the plunge, purchased a Creedmore. So I have been playing around with some loads with ELD-X 143gr and I am no where close to published velocities. I attribute a percentage of this to a new barrel and not finding the right powder. What are you guys getting for velocities and what powder are you using and with what bullet weight? Thank in advance.

Shooting factory Hornady 143s at 2700 with a Browning Hell’s Canyon LR and getting amazing results, both are 3 shot groups at 100 yards.

I have never loaded the 6.5 but in 50 years of reloading I have NEVER gotten the velocity the book said. In testing of factory loads I have NEVER gotten the velocity published.

I'm using H4350, 41.5 gr, listed max. Book shows an approximate velocity of 2700 fps, but I was getting 2597 fps. I thought this was way outside the window, even for estimated velocity. Anyway I wass just curious on others results.

Thing you gotta take into account is barrel length.  Most times the test barrel is much longer than your average factory tube.

I’ve pushed into the 2850 range with a 26” barrel. Accuracy is best at 2750. H4350.

I would normally agree, however the Hornady ammo im using in my 6.5 said 2700. Ive shot it thru the chrono 6 times and everyone was +/- 10 fps. I was amazed

Chamber differences can have a large impact on velocity and pressure as well.
