Which synthetic stock for my rifle?
« on: December 02, 2018, 05:13:52 AM »
I have a late 70’s Winchester model 70 chambered in 300 Win Mag that is currently being cerakoted. Rather than beat up the offigional beautiful wood stock i am wanting to buy a more durable synthetic stock. I have seen some Winchester take offs on eBay that look ok, but nothing really caught my eye. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

What's your price range?  That will jelp us give suggestions.

A good budget stock is HS Precision or a Hogue if you want to go cheaper..

Last year I picked up a nice Model 70 Sporter weight in 222 Rem with some pretty nice wood on it.  Being vertically challenged I need to cut the stock to shoot it well.  Being a fairly rare rifle I picked up a newer Model 70 synthetic LA stock and it was nearly a drop in fit and it kills coyotes just fine.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

I’d go for a bell & Carlson in that price range... I have one of their Alaskans on a model 700 300win mag and it has held up well and keeps it light.

I like Hogue stocks. Not a hard plastic but rubbery and quiet.

B&C if it fits right or keep an eye out until you can find a used McMillan. I've gotten into a few used McMillans for under 300 but you got to keep an eye out.

:yeah:  I've got one on my Rem 300 winmag and can't stand it because it doesn't fit me right. Thinking about going to a chassis system.  :twocents:

I have seen a few of these on eBay for under $100.  Did you have to do any modification, or did your rifle slip right into it?

Thanks
