First archery deer
« on: December 06, 2018, 07:30:01 PM »
Got my first deer with the bow this morning. GMU 654 (any deer). Spotted a doe 20 yards out in some really thick cover, got on a knee for a clear shot under some branches. Quartering towards me, I put the arrow just forward of the front left leg. After the shot, hear the arrow smacking on brush, deer rears up and takes off. Very heavy blood trail, find the arrow 30 yards behind where the deer stood. Follow the blood trail 150 yards, find my deer and snap a few pictures. Roll the deer over and surprise, it's a buck. Once I removed the heart I saw my arrow had gone right through it. Pretty excited about my first archery kill (other than grouse and rabbits)

Congrats! Had he shed out or was it a button head? A buddy shot a blacktail several years ago on the late muzzy hunt that had shed out. I wanna sayit was right around December 8th or so

That's awesome. I was just in the unit yesterday but didn't see anything other than a grouse.
