Not reduced to a gut pile yet
« on: December 08, 2018, 07:36:10 AM »
Harvest is going on hard at the moment along the hiway.  In one pass I saw one elk being dragged off the hill while the vehicle was parked in the lane on the hiway with its hazards on. 500 yards up the road another being gutted along the road and 300 yards past that a fresh gut pile.  No wonder this guy has such an indignant look.....

Little harder to keep hidden when you have darn near 5’ antlers on your head

That’s the irony of it all.  That bull has avoided predation, disease, hunters, stress of the rut,  etc. along with a few harsh winters in his lifetime.  Sorry if I offend but I can’t stomach the thought of this warrior (or any for that matter) meet his demise in any other way than the aforementioned or natural ways.

I have no idea who was doing the harvesting.   Could have been master hunters, is bow season still going? Natives...? I dont know.  No one was in camo so probably rifle.   It was sorta just crazy so close together on one stretch of road, the hiway no less.  Animals stuck up against the fence?

Bow season ends today in most units but it should be spike or cow only not big bulls. MH’s can hunt until Jan 20th in some areas but only cows.

Did you see bulls down or just gutpiles?
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Don't know where you are talking about bone, but my mom has been seeing some suspicious activities and reported one last night.

There's  a poacher or two working the area from the sounds of it.

So only a spike bull and cows taken seen by someone that was there??

But again, much easier to cast the 1st, 2nd and rock quarry then wait for tangible proof.

I doubt this had anything to do with poaching.  It was 8 in the morning, middle of a state hiway.   That was more what bothered me.  Park in the hiway with your hazards on while you pull a critter off the hill, two gutpiles, one in a pull off and one on the white line.   Kinda thought it was crazy.   Frantic to get that animal.  I have no idea what user group it was.  I kinda wonder what it looked lik a few minutes prior......
