AR15 good deals?
« on: December 22, 2018, 06:59:55 PM »
I’m not an AR guy but I figure it’s time to pick one up just because. There are just so dang many different kinds, any recommendations on good deals? Just looking for good quality probably something in a 16” or 18”, will most likely keep open sights. Is the Palmetto stuff any good? Don’t want to spend much over 500 bucks

I've got a Palmetto in 6.5 Creedmoor. haven't shot it yet, but seems well built.

My 6.5 Grendal I got from a member on here used a Palmetto lower and shot less than .5 MOA at 200 yards.

I'd say go for one. They might be having good sales on them right now.

If you want to build, you can customize and budget your rifle a little easier. Palmetto sells stripped lowers for 30/40 bucks. I have one of their blem lowers and it functions perfectly. The blem took awhile to find, a light patch in the anodizing inside the magwell. The ruger mentioned above is a great rifle at a great price.

I just bought 2 almost complete guns from delta team tactical. 1 in 223 and 1 in 300 blackout. 480 bucks minus the lower receivers and 1 bcg. Read some bad reviews but opted for the savings and everything went fine as far as shipping and receiving the correct items.

Own a Palmetto, Olympic Arms and a Rock River and they are all great.  The high end stuff is for sure nicer but don't really feel its worth the extra money. The cheap ones will most likely out shoot the shooter.

Good to hear I may move forward with an order, I was hesitant after seeing the reviews and not knowing anything about DTT.

If you are just wanting to pick on up to have one The M&P sport 2's are pretty dang good guns for the money. See them going for about $500 all the time. 10 years ago that would have been a junk gunshow POS AR for $500, in that time though the manufactures have got it figured out and come a long way. I recommend however to spend a bit more money and get something a little nicer. Spikes, Daniel defense, BCM all make really good rifles for around $1200 to $1600 mark, after $1600 IMO opinion your reaching the point of diminishing return. Let us know how you do.

Yeah just looking for a cheapo that is reliable and shoots decent. Probably going to end up as a dust collector. Leaning towards either a palmetto 16” or the M&p

A few years back and I was also considering the M&P or the Ruger 556,  I went with the Ruger but I really don’t think you can go wrong either way. The only complaint I had out of the box is the same with any Ruger and that’s the 7lb trigger pull. A 100-150$ drop in will fix that but maybe someone else here could tell you if the M&P trigger is less than that or can be adjusted?

Ruger isnt adjustable and they want it that way, it takes liability out of it for them once you alter the weapon.

If you were to upgrade a little or want to build your own I’d look at Aero Precision, their stuff is really nice and they are local in Tacoma.

Ended up picking up 2 from palmetto during their New Year sales. A 16” carbine that will wear open sights and an 18” chambered in 223 wylde. Both were under 400 bucks, got the 18” out to the range today and it shoots great. Under an inch with hornady 55 sp’s during break in with no misfires. Fit and finish is cheap but acceptable and the trigger is decent. All in all 370 bucks well spent. Haven’t put the carbine together yet

I have a 556 that's a PSA lower and hardened arms upper. I also have a 300blk from Olympic and a custom 6.5cm built on an aero m5e1 builders kit. They all function flawlessly and all flat out shoot.
