Bank Fishing Lake Chelan
« on: December 26, 2018, 04:06:45 PM »
Anyone ever bank fish the lake?  We will be staying between Hollywood Beach and the State Park somewhere and was thinking about packing a rod.  My guess is from the bank I’ll be looking at perch or something of that nature this time of year?

Not much for Perch in Chelan.  Rainbows most likely... there are a few bass in the summer.  Make sure and check the regs as different sections of the lake are open at different times with different size limits.  My brother lives in Chelan and we fished it a lot growing up.  Never caught much from shore in the past but he says its productive now.  The lake will be deep and rocky where you will be. Just check the regs to make sure.  And have a great time on a great lake!

This time of year is good fro rainbows at Cheln (water level is down). Cast wedding rings tipped with a bit of worm.

No perch in Chelan...but lots of smallmouth bass, even out by where you are staying. Pitch grubs in the shape of crawdads and bounce then off of the rocky bottom. If you venture over to the Manson area check out Mill Bay park as you cad do really good fishing for rainbows, either with hardware (spinners/spoons) or with powerbait and a long leader fished off of the bottom.

Also, Roses Lake was recently planted with 15,000 rainbows, and is about 2 or 3 miles from Manson (depending if you go over the top or town or turn at the casino) and is really good bank fishing at the WDFW access site (boat launch, just to the left) but use at least a 3 foot leader (or 4 is better) and a 1 ounce sliding weight, with powerbait  (power eggs is best, chartruse) and cast it as far as you can...I fished it last weekend and this was the only rod that caught fish out of 3 rods we had out...

Grade

PS. Another option to pass the time is to drive along the south shore and glass up big muley bucks that are wintering...that's how we passed time when I was a kid.

We had a condo and a dock up at Sunnybank on the lake.  The only thing I ever caught in the winter off of the bank or dock was squaw fish and rainbows.  First thing in the morning and late evening pitching rooster tails did well and during the day power bait on the bottom.

:yeah:
We use to take the boat up lake and glass big mule bucks in the winter.  Shot my biggest mule buck up at Cub Lake above Prince Creek.

Bank fishing can be OK, we used to fish off Grade Cr. and kill big rainbows on worms, spinners and spoons. Can't fish by the creeks now, I think.  I like a Panther Martin spinner but we also caught fish on Lil Cleos and other spinners when I was scouting for sheep a few years ago.

Have fun!

Ive gotten limits of trout right off the bridge in town before using worms and a small brass jighead with a short hook... Fishing can be great even in town
