Dillon 550 what do you like or hate about them
« on: January 25, 2019, 04:25:22 PM »
Hello,
I just bought a used Dillon 550 off of Ebay and am looking for what people like about them and hate about them, I've done some research before buying and of course watched youtube reviews but would like to hear from anybody on the forum who uses one on the pro's and con's that you see.
Thanks
P.s. I am already reloading several calibers on a Rock Chucker  but want to up my production on some calibers such as 38, 45 acp, 22 hornet and 222 remington.
That which does not kill me should've had a better plan

They are a great machine, I don't care for them because I need higher production and they are to slow. Depending on your volume, you can't go wrong.   :twocents:

Squib maker, I would go with a 650.

Yes, there are plenty of guys who have them and do fine.  But one day you are going to get distracted, get interrupted, take a sip of your beer and then you are going to hear a pop instead of a bang at the range.

I have two and absolutely love them.  I can load 300-400 an hour which is plenty fast enough.  I would be more worried about a double charge than a squib using these machines.....but at the end of the day if your not paying attention you shouldn't be loading.  Be careful and double check your finished product.

Happy loading and congrats on drinking the blue!!!!  Great machines and company.

Thanks for the reply's, unfortunately/fortunately I've learned the no powder lesson and am probably obsessive/compulsive with my single stage loading process now which is why I feel ready for a progressive. That being said double loads do worry me and I plan on being way careful in the learning stage.

I have two 550's as I wanted one for large primers and one for small primers.
