Smoked Carp
« on: February 16, 2019, 07:58:48 PM »
I was looking at the bow fishing section and was wondering if any one smokes carp ? Growing up in South Dakota and working in retail grocery we always had smoked carp for sale in the meat department.I thought it tasted great and they piled it in the case just like they do smoked salmon here.Just wondering if anybody has tried it or has a recipe to share.??

Never heard of it.  Sounds absolutely terrible but in all reality I've never tried eating carp and I have some buddies that swear by smoked / canned shad.  Do you have a recipe to try?  Maybe worth a shot if you've had it before

Our bow club Silver Arrow Bowmen  has done a carp shoot before. We didnt smoke them but deep fried them like catfish.  They were ok, but when you have salmon and walleye there is better fair around.

I have no personal experience, but I find the idea interesting. I'd be willing to try some carp from a decent water source.

I grew up in the Midwest and we smoked a lot of carp and buffalo.  They are good smoked.  They are also decent fried if you remove the mud vein and score them.  Of course, they aren't walleyes but if you have carp, they are surely edible.

Hey!, it's got to be better than "Eating Crow" (something I have had to do more than once) over my lifetime. ;)
