Guns have been allowed for nine years.

I knew they started allowing handguns for self defense, do they allow hunting rifles too now?
yeah, since 2010.  They left up most of their signs, so that throws people off.

Easy research.

Quote
Congress approved a new law allowing loaded
firearms in national parks starting Feb. 22,
2010. That means people can openly carry legal
handguns, rifles, shotguns and other firearms
and also may carry concealed guns as allowed by
state statute.

Utah got hit hard  :o
Not really.

All of the Utah provisions were put into the bill by Utah's congressional delegation which have been arguing for the provisions for several years. Lands in Utah are always under the threat of National Monuments being declared by Presidents and the Utah congressional delegation viewed this as a good move so that they can choose areas that get protected and who gets to administer the land, instead of the president doing it with the swipe of the pen. Utah also benefited in that some federal land was turned over to the state to manage as a state park as well as SITLA (similar to WA DNR) land.
