Yellowstone to Glacier
« on: March 04, 2019, 05:01:48 PM »
Hey all my wife and I are kicking around an anniversary fishing trip the first part of August. My wife found a site online that has some fishing ideas from Yellowstone to glacier natl park. So we’ve been searching around for some spots to fish and camp out. I was curious if any of you fine folks on here would have any ideas, tips or places you have been over there that you would visit or stay again. We are hoping to truck camp and do some fly fishing as much as possible. We’ve been looking at the Gallatin, Madison, flathead and such rivers. Are there any high mountain lakes to camp and fish at? We are preparing for bears ( hopefully not seeing any). We will be pretty mobile so we can travel to fish as much as possible. I appreciate any help! Thanks, Jason

We went to Glacier a few yrs ago and one of my kids fished a little bit.  Saw fish in the streams and bigger lakes in the Park but he never had any luck.  Anyways camping in Glacier is a PITA, since it's 1st come 1st serve. We made reservations at the KOA's on both sides of Glacier before hand for cabins. I would recommend looking up the private campgrounds on the east and west side of Glacier and making reservations now.  Never saw any bears on any of the hikes we went on in the Park but wanted too.  We are doing Yellowstone this year for the first time so can't comment on that.

All the rivers you mentioned have good fishing, in addition to the firehole.
There are cutthroat &  rainbows primarily, some browns also around Flathead.
These are tough fish - they don't line-up waiting to jump into your creel! :chuckle:

Obviously lots of fishing to be had and country to see between Yellowstone and Glacier . When your tired of the rivers head to the east side of Glacier to Two Medicines lake . Great lake fishing,  great camping , eastside of the park has less tourists but you can still access all of the Glacier hot spots if you want to. Lots of smaller lakes to go explore as well.  Have a great trip.

Thank you for the feedback! Definitely looking forward to this trip. If anything it’ll be nice to travel a little bit without the kids. Thru some of the research it looks like there are a few batches going on when we will be there. We went to Yellowstone on our honeymoon so I know a little bit about the streams there. We have never been to Glacier though. Now comes the part of outfitting my wife with waders, etc. She has never flyfished so it should be interesting. Lol
