Yea when I started this thread I didn't think I would get much interest. Mostly guys just kicking tires as usual. Turned out like I anticipated.

Couple months ago, after striking out in wyoming, I decided to see if there were any last minute or cancellation hunts available. In my search, I came across the kodiak hunt I mentioned and it sparked my interest. Now I am legitimately looking into it for 2020 as we planned a different hunt for this year.

Id go back if I could without a second thought. One of these days I want to stick with the Road System Hunt and see how much cheaper it is. In the past I had a skiff I'd launch from Anton Larsen and motor around to public  beaches to hike from there  (heard of a guy who did it in a kayak once). But I remember quite a few of my friends would ride Saltery to the magic line and kill their limit or would hike off the road system and fill the 3 tags easy.

Back in the 80s when I lived in Kodiak, the boundary for the road system used to be different than it is now.  It used to run from the mouth of Saltery Creek to Crag Point and it was possible to hike in to the multiple deer area from just above the Anton Larsen boat launch. But a couple people who live in Anton Larsen bay complained about people riding quads into "their" hunting area so the line was changed to from the mouth of Saltery Creek to the creek at the head of Sharatine Bay. This effectively made the whole northeast part of Kizhuyak Bay/Sharatin Bay part of the road system.  Back in the day, it was nice to have an area you could get off the "road system" on foot with out boats or ATVs.  Technically you still can if you ride out to Saltery cove and hike across Saltery Creek. But it's a long walk over to the hills.

I also used to kayak from Anton Larsen Bay to Sharatine Bay to deer hunt.

This is a sweet thread. Kodiak looks epic, especially for deer.
