Walla Walla Area - public land
« on: March 26, 2019, 09:01:40 AM »
Looking to spend a week down in the Walla Walla area. Looking to hunt on public land. Any pointers on what areas to check out or public access would be greatly appreciated. Campsites would also be a bonus.

Thanks!

Elk?  Deer?  Grouse?  Turkey?  What is your poison?  Bunch of ill managed forest service around.

Grab yourself a public lands map. Most sporting goods stores sell them. I prefer LC Sportsmaps, but there are many really good ones. Or if you are tech savvy there are companies that offer digital maps with parcel info and public land right on your favorite device. Spring turkey need water and a place to sleep. Most prefer pine trees for roosting, if they are available. Hens like to nest in certain types of areas, and toms like hens. Most areas outside of the NE corner have much lower densities of turkey and people tend to be more tight lipped. Rightly so. If you can get a map and narrow down locations based on preferred turkey habitat you'll be ahead of the curve when you get there.

Plenty of Feel free to hunt land in that area, just have to scout them out to see if they hold turkeys.
