Just how dark can coyotes get?
« on: March 26, 2019, 08:43:44 AM »
A coyote with a very dark grey, almost black coat was only yards away. I was putting the dog into the truck and turned around and there was a coyote no more than 20 feet away. This is on the Kitsap Pa.

Black coyotes are a thing. Melanistic I believe is the term used.

Apparently, that is the only color I see in coyotes around here. Although, I did see one on my trail cam that had normal coloring.

Black coyotes are fairly common on the east coast.
