Fords new 7.3 gas engine

Coming out for 2020 F250 and F350 trucks anyone heard the horsepower and torques for this engine.

As of early Feb, no specs had been released.

They have to do something...commercial truck users are getting really fed up with emissions issues with Ford's and everyone else's diesels. They can't use them like they need to use them because the DPF's get plugged up all the time.

I read a piece where the engineers said it isn't that different from  6.7 diesel, so the mechanics should be able to work on it with little schooling.

Notably absent is any mention of fuel economy, one of the main reasons I haven't considered buying a truck with a big gas engine.

It's also interesting that this won't replace the 6.2 gasser, they will sell both gassers and the diesel.  With the several gas engines in the F-150, it's going to be a confusing car lot.

You will see this motor in many fleets. the down time of the diesels is horrible and if it aint turning it aint earning.  the Mileage loss is cheaper to absorb than the down time for all the emissions problems that put the 6.7s out of service.

No specs have been released yet, so definitely no fuel economy ratings, but what would you expect from a 7.3 liter gas engine? It's going to be horrible. These trucks are sold without fuel economy ratings anyway once they're over 8500# GVW.
This engine won't go into the F150's. Pretty sure the 6.2 doesn't go in the F150's anymore either. I might be wrong there. Pretty sure your options for F150 is 2.7 and 3.5 ecoboosts, 5.0 Coyote and the diesel. This is a good move from Ford. Federal emissions requirements are making the diesel trucks non-conducive to the commercial market. Too much down time due to emissions issues. I deal with these guys every day. More and more are going away from diesels every day and to the current big gas engines. This will be an improvement on those engines.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking these would go into the F-150, just that there would be a ton of choices for engines if a guy was considering an F-150 or F-250/350 and trying to compare purchase cost, fuel economy, tow capacity, etc.  It seems to me there are a bunch of motor options which get me a little nervous.  It's hard to do them all right and I wonder if they are in the advance stages of figuring out what platforms to settle on and retire the rest.  I can't see a long-term solution of having that many motors in development and maintenance.

I haven't written off fuel economy for larger capability motors, look what they did with the tiny gassers.  Interestingly enough, they are going the opposite way here with a huge motor instead of getting more out of a smaller motor - maybe just the quickest way to fix the diesel problem short term and not completely loose commercial market share?

not suprising, when you make a diesel breathe in and out through a straw, and increase cost of purchase and maintenance, people are going to get irritated. Glad i still got my old Diesel 7.3

jackelope, since you're our resident Ford guy, if you ever get a chance, could you suggest to the powers to be that we'd reallllllllly appreciate it if Ford would do a 5.0 Coyote Ecoboost for the F150.
