well we went and shot it today, just fired some patched round balls for fun and it seemed to shoot ok. I was amazed at the lack of recoil.

The lack of recoil is a big part of what makes shooting black powder fun for me.  I'm a recoil weenie, but my muzzleloader doesn't bother me at all even with hunting loads.  With light loads I can shoot all day and enjoy it, can't do that with a high power modern rifle.

I had good luck with a Traditions gun for a few years when inline was just getting popular. They grouped well out of the box. They seemed like a good value for the price. Sold both of mine for about $50 each five years after buying them. One of them a buddy has and kills elk almost every year still.
