Williams Creek GMU
« on: April 14, 2019, 09:25:01 PM »
Done with putting in for special permits on so many levels so I'm researching units to pick up an over the counter tag if I don't draw any out of state tags. Somewhere I can scout out as a back up hunt for hunting if like I say the out of state Gods don't smile on me. Williams Creek is one area I'd like to explore. This would be a muzzy or possibly a rifle hunt.

I'm only asking for general information mainly focusing on access. Not anyone's hunting spot. I'm aware that it's mostly private timberland with some pockets of state land. Who's the private land belong to? Is access to the state land blocked by private? Do you need a permit for the private? Can you camp inside the unit? Walk in only? Nearby areas to camp?

I've tried searching on here but I must not be using the search function correctly because I couldn't locate answers to my questions.

Thanks

I hunt the southern portion of Williams Creek.
Most of unit is free walk in ( no camping) access behind gates.
I camp on state land near Naselle.
Bay Center has a KOA, Bruceport has campground, access to Dnr gates,
I plan on investigating the Trap Creek acess this year if I have time, just out of curiosity, have not been in that part of unit.
I heard about some other access permitted areas, but cannot remember who the company is...
But if you got a bike, or like really long walks, there is lots of access, just limited options for camping near the gates.

Or, as I was told years ago when I asked...
There is no elk, No camping, its all steep uphill, its really thick, it sucks, don't bother, too many hunters...
;)
Still have yet to meet a H-W member I did not invite down there.

Thanks. This helps give me a bit more direction. Next I'll try and find a GMU map. I always enjoy that part of the journey.

And yes it's hard to locate elk in an area that holds none... :chuckle: :chuckle:
