Cow moose OIL?
« on: May 07, 2019, 08:18:11 AM »
I'm sure I'm gonna get bashed for this thought, but shouldn't cow moose also be once in a lifetime.? Last year 30179 applicants put in for 34 tags not including youth, over 65 and disabled hunts. With the amount of tags allotted why should someone who has already been successful with a cow tag be able to be put right back into a drawing with the other 30+ thousand that would like a chance at drawing. Let's be honest statistically the majority of people will never be drawn. Which only shows how Washington is not about opportunity just revenue.

:yeah: if moose are dwindling as pretty much everyone agrees they are, then there's zero justification for shooting momma moose.

But you are correct beauhunter, I agree that it should also be once in a lifetime.  I also think that it should count as your one moose in WA. Lot of folks don't care if it's a bull or cow and most apply for it only because it's cheap.  Guarantee if you did that the app pool for cow moose would drop in half
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

I've got no problem making it once in a lifetime but the odds of drawing more than one is astronomical.

Too much logic in this post. I will throw out I apply for bull and cow moose every year but would be more than happy drawing a cow tag and losing out on a bull. I'm one of those "looks the same in the freezer" types. If they're going to offer tags I'll apply but I'll agree it seems odd to hear numbers are dropping and they're still offering cow tags.

I totally disagree about hunting ewes. Sheep populations need to stay in check until we provide more protections against domestics on the fringe of wild sheep ranges.

I wish that transferring sheep to new areas or letting them expand ranges was an option but that wave seems to have slowed down the last couple years because of disease transfer and domestic livestock contact.
