Hot dog, 23 lbs. That's a nice chunky bird. I'm planning to try crossbow this fall and eventually try with a bow. Great shot and great bird!

Thats a giant bird.  Did you use decoys?  I had a jar full of feathers trying to connect on one with out decoys.  Then dave smith devoys came out and changed all of that.  40 yds is a poke to congrats on that shot too.

No blind and no decoys. I knew his strutting line in the afternoon. I got on the edge of one side and gave a few yelps and purrs every ten min or so. He came in with another big tom. The one I shot looked to be the bigger and presented a better shot opportunity.

Good job!  Did they see you draw the bow?  Im curious if they give a few seconds to draw and shoot.   My next toms will probably be with the bow.

Yes the first bird saw me draw and started to walk away. The second(the one I shot) did see me, but was unsure of what I was. When you archery hunt without a blind it definitely adds a extra challenge to it. I like to draw when they are at full strut looking away, or their head is behind a tree or cover. When you bow hunt without a blind, there is more failure than success. I have always enjoyed those types of challenges.

It would be a state record for a bow but well short of overall record of 31 lbs. I have a feeling most people don't enter their kills into the NWTF that keep tracks of all the records. I honestly didn't know about it till yesterday haha.
