Cowardice?
« on: August 01, 2009, 02:42:37 PM »
As you can well imagine the rubber hatch (tubers) is prolific on the Snoqualmie with the recent hot weather. It is so crowded there is a traffic jam in Fall City from 3pm until dark! So fishing below the falls to Carnation is pretty much a morning activity, coming back from Snoqualmie last Sunday I decided to scope out the launch below Tokul Cr. and it was jammed.
Cars and people everywhere, on a whim I decided to survey the displayed "use permits". There were 2 displayed out of 60+/- vehicles, coincidently they had trailers and I saw 2 drift boats downstream. I was immediately struck by the ample opportunity for the WDFW to bolster its revenue stream, where was the enforcement?
As I continued toward FC, I spied a game warden parked along side 203, I pulled in next to him. After a few minutes, he was on his cell,  he asked me if I needed anything. I responded that I was wondering if anyone was going to issue tickets at the launch, he laughs and responded that they didn't have enough man power, it would take three officers to do that! I was confused, why three? Well he said the tubers usually were in large groups and often drunk. I responded, aren't you able to issue tickets to the vehicle along the lines of a parking ticket with no contact? He said yes, but that he was to busy! I responded wouldn't be cost effective to write 60 tickets in 2 hours? He didn't respond, I said you can find the time to issue tickets in December right in the middle of your busy season? I left it at that, but it got me thinking, maybe this winter maybe all the anglers and hunters should travel in large groups and drink heavily, thwarting enforcement!

The selective enforcement of various laws in this state is disturbing.

kind of like they'll go around looking for a guy who didn't do a good enough job pinching his barbs down while there's others blatantly snagging fish.

i've always though the parking permit system is a joke because of incidents like the above -- the only time enforcement is usually anywhere near those areas is when the fish are running.

Did you get the Warden's name? I'd place a call to the state office.

 :yeah:

Damn it! Don't be citing any sportsmen for not posting the window tag they probably have laying in the truck if you are going to let everyone else use the damn launch without purchasing one....  >:(

That is lame for sure...But the worst part is it doesn't surprise me a bit (happens all the time)...You could try reporting it to his superiors and hope it does some good  .

A little personal story from a few years ago.

It was the first day on our new fishing liscence and vehicle permits for the year. It was slow at work so co-worker and I figured we would run to the Kalama and make a float and fish trip. After a great day of fishing and no catching we get to the take out. On my window in a little zip lock bag is a ticket for not haeving the curent vehicle pass. I had the old one in plain view but forgot to display the new one. I look around and see 2 other rigs with little zip lock bags under their window wiper.  I was pissed. He knew we were fisher men and we had the right passes. If not why was he not at the take out looking for us to ticket us for no fishing lisc.? PRICK!!! I paid the ticket.

I say all that to make this point. Why did they not write tickets for every car in that parking lot without the permit? When it is just 3 vehicles they are on you like a pack of dogs on a 3 legged cat!!! Thye always pick on those who they know have the money to pay the ticket. A bunch of kids aren't worth the hastle. I think they are but he was to lazy to get out of his AC and do his job. They should have towed the vehicles parked in the way of fishermen trying to launch a boat also.
I bet he wasn't at the take out checking for under age drinking either was he. As soon as one of them fishemen hit the beach he was probably all over them wanting to see their liscences. Some wardens are cool the rest are just asses behind a badge!!!

fishcrazy,

Shouldn't have paid the ticket. You would have had to waste a day going to court, but the judge would have thrown it out after you showed you had a fishing license and thus your vehicle use permit.

My father received a ticket one day as well, same thing...had the previous years on the dash...judge tossed it.

Ya know, I have been thinking about this a bit more, and am really pissed about it. That gamey should be dropped. To ignore a large bunch of violators like that, irregardless of the weather is *censored*. If it was really snowy and neat out, do you think that the snow cop would not cite my rig at the snowpark? Great ball game, the no parking zone? All he did was teach others to ignore the rules, and prove to us that they are out to "get" sportsmen. Really inappropriate and needs to be dealt with.

By the time I would have taken the time off work to go to court it would cost me 4x the amount of the ticket. I was in the wrong  I did not have the permit displayed as  I was sapose to. I payed it and sucked it up and went about my life.

It pisses me off to see a cop pick and choose who he will enforce the laws with. Especially in a massive situation like this.

The internet is fine to complain, but the only way to get the results you want and should happen here is to call the local or regional office.  Relay exactly what you said here, and I am sure that something will be done.  Yes a couple sportsman will probably also get ticketed, but there is no way to determine who is who in a situation like that. I doubt anyone would get a ticket if they had it laying visible on their seat.  Mine melted off the little holder last year, so now I just lay it on the dash.

Yep you are totally right.  If its the drunk kids or sportsmen if they break the laws that we all have to abide by they should get a ticket.  We all know the state could use the money.
